We arrived into London at 7:30 am. We caught a coach to Abindon on the outskirts of Oxford. We stayed with an old friend Steve who was the perfect host. After we had refreshed ourselves Steve took us for a tour of the surrounding area. We visited Burford, a lovely little town in the Cotswold area. The houses and public buildings are built using Cotswold stone for which the area is famous. We visited a very old church (Saint John the Baptist Burford). The stained glass windows were exquisite in their simplicity.
The cemetery dated as far back as the 13th century.
Steve took us to a remarkable ruin called Minster Lovell Hall built by Lord William Hall in the 1440s and was further extended by his grandson, Lord Francis. The last resident was Thomas Coke who moved to Norfolk, leaving Lovell Hall to be dismanteled and left to go to ruins in 1747. The building was surrounded by a beautiful forest that remains until today. Centuries ago it was separated from the King’s forest to permit hunting the deer and other animals. After that we had a nice meal overlooking the river Thames.

Your trip to the Cotswolds brought back memories of when we stayed in a Cotswold village. The beautiful honeycomb colour stone, the stream running through the village, the sheep alley that the sheep used to go down to the market square one at a time so they could be counted. We didn’t get to see the other places you describe. Would have liked to see the church with the stained glass windows.
Trust you will stay healthy and really enjoy the walk. I was talking to our friend from Deal tonight and she was saying it is quite cold in England with very cold winds.
